In conversation with The HP Collective
In the evolving world of Punjabi weddings, one thing remains constant: emotion. As modern couples move beyond posed perfection, wedding photography has become a language of its own, full of unscripted, authentic moments that tell real stories. We spoke with The HP Collective, whose soulful lens beautifully captures this emotional grammar. In her own words, she explains why real moments always leave the deepest imprint.
From Posed Portraits to Emotionally Honest Stories
“I think people came to the realisation that those guest photo or family photo marathons that take up a huge chunk of the day aren’t really the ones they look back on. The photos that actually spark emotion and bring back the best memories usually don’t require much posing at all. It’s the candid moments, the laughter, the in-between bits, sometimes even pure chaos that end up meaning the most.”
This organic shift, she explains, often comes from couples reflecting on what truly mattered when they look at their own or friends’ wedding albums and realizing that staged perfection rarely holds the emotional weight of real, raw moments.

What Modern Couples Want from Their Wedding Photographer
“I think what I’ve really started appreciating and noticing is that couples love a good client experience and being mindful of the overall vibe of their photographer, which is so important, especially as your wedding photo and video team will likely spend most of their time with you!”
Today’s couples don’t just hire for skills. They seek someone who brings energy, comfort, and heart into their most intimate day. As she explains, “Couples now can resonate with those who truly put their heart into their craft.”

The Double-Edged Sword of Social Media
“Oh, for sure! Before social media, most of us were looking at our parents’ or even grandparents’ wedding albums for reference. Back then, weddings were documented more for tradition than creative expression. But now, with social media taking over and every other couple hoping their wedding goes viral, trends are being repeated and expectations just keep getting higher.”
While inspiration is abundant, she gently reminds her couples to stay grounded:
“While trends are fun, the photos they’ll actually love years from now are the ones that feel like them, not like someone else’s Pinterest board.”

The Beautiful Return of Old Techniques
When asked about trends that are making a comeback, she shares:
“Some may argue that the intentionally blurred/low shutter speed photos are a new trend, but these have actually been around for a while. I love that it’s making a comeback! It’s such a creative way to capture haste and the magical chaos that takes place during a wedding week.”
The Power of True Candid Storytelling
“Candid, documentary, photojournalistic photography, it all comes down to capturing things as they naturally unfold. You get real emotion, real energy, and all the beautiful unpredictability of the day. It’s not about perfect poses, it’s about the hugs, the nerves, the chaos, the joy, the tears, and that’s what tells the true story of a wedding day.”
Her words echo the shift we’re seeing across modern Punjabi weddings, where the feeling matters far more than the frame.

The Silent Director: A Photographer’s True Role
“The cool thing about being a wedding photographer is that you’re kind of like a silent director, piecing together a story without ever seeing the full script.”
In her storytelling approach, she allows the day to unfold naturally, stepping in only to guide gently when needed. Whether following chronology or highlighting emotional peaks, the goal remains the same:
“Every decision is made with intention to honour how the day felt, not just how it looked.”
Unforgettable Moments that Can’t Be Staged
“Especially with Indian weddings, there’s such a whirlwind of emotion, colour, and chaos. It all feels like an explosion of moments happening all at once!”
She reflects that some of the most powerful images come during ceremony rituals, when emotions are at their peak.
“These are the moments that should never be posed. Letting them unfold naturally always results in the most honest and moving photos.”
Her instinct, sharpened by experience both as a photographer and as a bride herself, helps her anticipate these emotional beats and capturing memories couples treasure most.

What’s Next for Wedding Photography?
“I think we’ll see an even bigger emphasis on creativity through unexpected angles, bold compositions, or playing with colour in new ways. Couples are no longer just looking for a record of the day; they want their photos to feel like art, like cinema, like something uniquely theirs.”
As the lines blur between editorial, fashion, and documentary styles, she believes this creative evolution will make wedding photography even more exciting in the years ahead.
Wedding photography is far more than shutter speed or lighting, it’s an emotional language of its own. As The HP Collective beautifully puts it, “The most powerful moments are often the ones that just happen.” And in capturing those unscripted beats, photographers give couples what they truly desire, not just pictures, but a living, breathing memory of their love story.
